The Valiant Defender of Medina, Fahreddin Pasha
Fahreddin Pasha is known as the "Desert Tiger" for his legendary defense of Madinah during World War I.
The Siege of Madinah
From 1916 to 1919, Madinah was under siege. While the Ottoman Empire was collapsing and other fronts had surrendered, Fahreddin Pasha refused to give up the city of the Prophet (SAW).
Unwavering Love
He famously addressed his soldiers in the Prophet's Mosque: "Soldiers! I appeal to you in the name of the Prophet, my witness. I command you to defend him and his city with the last cartridge and the last breath."
His troops were starving, resorting to eating locusts, yet their morale remained high due to their commander's devotion.
Protecting the Relics
Fearing looting, he safely transported the Sacred Trusts (relics of the Prophet) to Istanbul, where they are preserved today in Topkapi Palace.
Surrender
He was the last Ottoman commander to surrender, months after the war had officially ended, and only upon the direct order of the Sultan. He was arrested while praying at the Rawdah of the Prophet (SAW), weeping.
Fahreddin Pasha remains a symbol of undying love for the Messenger of Allah (SAW).
