Through a Woman's Prayer, a Poor Man from Egypt Performed Hajj for 20 Consecutive Years

This is a famous contemporary story often recounted by scholars about a simple man named Saeed from Egypt.

The Intention

Saeed had saved money for years to perform Hajj. Just before he was to leave, he encountered a neighbor in dire distress—a widow struggling to feed her children.

The Sacrifice

Moved by their plight, Saeed secretly gave his entire Hajj savings to the widow, choosing to relieve her burden over his own lifelong dream. He told no one.

The Miracle

The pilgrims returned from Hajj, and to Saeed's shock, they began congratulating him: "Hajj Mabrur, Saeed! We saw you in Arafat! We saw you in Mina!"

Saeed was confused; he had never left Egypt.

The Dream

It is said that a righteous man saw the Prophet (SAW) in a dream, who told him: "Allah accepted the Hajj of Saeed, even though he did not go, and because of his charity, Allah created an angel in his likeness to perform Hajj on his behalf."

20 Years of Hajj

Following this, through miraculous means and unexpected gifts, Saeed was able to physically perform Hajj for the next 20 years of his life.

This story teaches us that charity given with a pure heart can outweigh even the physical act of pilgrimage. Allah looks at the hearts, not just the bodies.
