Zamzam Water: A Miracle and a Means for Duas

The story of Zamzam begins with Hajar (AS) and her infant son Ismail (AS) in the barren valley of Makkah. Her desperate search for water between Safa and Marwah is commemorated in the Sa'i ritual.

The Miracle of Zamzam

Allah sent Angel Jibreel to strike the earth, and from that spot, the blessed water gushed forth. Hajar contained it by saying "Zome, Zome" (Stop, Stop), hence the name Zamzam.

Benefits of Zamzam Water

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

"The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for." (Ibn Majah)

This means it serves as:

1. Nourishment: It satisfies hunger.
2. Cure: It is a healing for illness.
3. Answered Prayer: Drinking it with a specific intention is a means for that dua to be accepted.

Etiquette of Drinking Zamzam

When drinking Zamzam water, it is Sunnah to:

• Face the Qibla.
• Say Bismillah.
• Drink in three breaths.
• Make a specific Dua.
• Say Alhamdulillah afterwards.

A Powerful Dua

Ibn Abbas (RA) used to pray when drinking Zamzam:

“O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, plentiful provision, and healing from every disease.”
